The essential features of the new list are: the restriction of the family Hermaeidae to diaulic species; the restoration of the genera Calliopaea and Placida; and the transference of Limapontia to the family Stiligeridae. Ascoglossa is preferred as the name of the order. The list is based on a recent classification of the Ascoglossa by Baba and Hamatani (1970), modified by Gascoigne (l976).
