Conchological Society Book Sale, 2010

Bernard Verdcourt library and gift from Helen Rhoden

Bernard Verdcourt , who will be known to many members of CS as a well-known and eminent malacologist and as a past-President and Honorary Member, is now rather frail, and in a long-term care home. NMW Cardiff have had first pick of his library; Roger Polhill, who is dealing with things on his behalf has now asked CS to help in disposing of the rest. He wants them to go to CS members at a reasonable price, and has very generously offered half the proceeds to CS; the rest will help towards paying for Bernard’s care. There are about 135 books and some runs of periodicals.

Helen Rhoden has also very kindly given CS some books to be sold for CS funds.

The Society is very grateful to both donors for their generosity.

In order to give all members equal access, we have decided to sell the books by postal auction on a members-only basis.

The catalogue is available on-line. Alternatively, any member who wants to receive a catalogue on paper should write to Bas at Wildbanks, Dunsford, Exeter, EX6 7AA or e-mail him at . Please refer to the notes and rules before making a bid. Bids must be received by Friday 12 March (by post or by e-mail) using the form.

Many thanks to Mary Seddon for listing the books; to Kevin Brown for providing estimates; and to Jan Light and Rosemary Hill for housing the books and agreeing to deal with getting books to buyers.
