Message from the President – January 2010
Dear all,
The Society needs a new Honorary Treasurer, and I would like to take this opportunity to invite all our members to consider taking a greater part in the Society's activities.
Pryce Buckle, who has acted as the Society's Honorary Treasurer for a long time, resigned in October. We owe Pryce a very large debt of gratitude for his long and careful husbanding of our resources, and for his dedication to the best interests of the Society. Nick Light – Jan's husband, who has for some time acted as our Financial Examiner (under Charities law, we have to have someone suitably qualified to examine our accounts each year), has very kindly said that he is willing to act as Treasurer for a short time, but is unable to take it on on a longer-term basis because of other commitments.
I would be most grateful if any member who might be interested and willing to put their name forward would get in touch with me, and I can give them more information.
More generally, I would very much like to encourage all members to consider volunteering to play a greater part in helping to run the Society. Like most Societies, Conch Soc depends on its officers and Council members – without their energy and good sense, nothing would work very well. Please get in touch – and please don't feel shy about telling us that you might be willing to do more – or know of another member who might be willing. There are lots of different things that need to be done.
Very best wishes to all,
Bas
