Aids to Identification
Among the resources included is the online "Encyclopedia of British Molluscs". This section of the website aims to provide an overview of the variety of different forms and also give more information on individual species. At the moment it covers mainly marine species. As well as excellent images, it provides descriptions of the shell, habitat and ecology details, key features and distribution maps. Please note that it is still under development.
Other resources are available from the top menu of this page, and include:–
An illustrated beginners' guide to common garden molluscs.
An illustrated key to the family Vertiginidae.
An online guide to fresh- and brackish-water gastropods.
It is hoped to extend this section in the future.

Slug Control
There is more to slug control than a packet of pellets. There are options here for all situations. Dr Bill Symondson's article covers the identification of slug pest species, chemical and non-chemical methods of controlling slug pests, resistant plant varieties, and how to encourage natural predators.

A recent development has been the use of Ferric Phosphate pellets. These have the advantage of having been approved by the Soil Association for use in organic horticulture and agriculture.
Ferric Phosphate interfers with digestion, causing the slug to stop eating almost immediately. It dies 3–6 days later. Read Ferric Phosphate Fact Sheet.
Suppliers of Ferric Phosphate based pellets – Approved for organic farming under EEC Directive 2092/91.
