The Society is represented on all the U.K. Government's Biodiversity Steering Groups which are concerned with the conservation of some of Britain's rarest molluscs.

Although the Society's name includes Great Britain and Ireland, our interests are worldwide. In addition to making grants for research within these islands, our grants have included work in places as far apart as Morocco and Borneo.
We also support the Congress of European Malacological Societies and the World Congress of Malacologists.
Members normally have a main conchological interest, and many also have a general interest in conchological subjects. The subjects include such things as books, cooking, prose, poetry, captive breeding, shell artefacts, shells on stamps, shell craft, etc. Articles on these and other similar subjects are included here.
